I WANT TO GLORIFY THE LORD IN EVERYTHING I THINK, SAY AND DO

“But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18

Have you ever thought about what is happening daily in heaven? We know from the Word of God that the heavens are filled with endless praise for Jesus. Things seem so hurried on this earth and everything seams to change so rapidly. What was new yesterday is old today, but there is one thing which will never get old, that is the praise and glory His children give to the King of Kings and Lord of lords. To Jesus I will give the glory now and forever.

To Him will I raise my song of worship today; praises to the Lord will never cease because the One who bought us with His blood deserves our praise for eternity.

The glory of the cross will never be overshadowed; the brightness of His tomb and resurrection will never be forgotten. Jesus is worthy of our worship now and forever. Today, as a believer, I anticipate the time when I will join the saints in heaven with the other redeemed to give glory forever to Him who lives forever. The words of the Apostle Peter are: “To Him be the glory now and for ever.”

The Lord put me in this world for a reason; and the Lord shows me His purpose and helps me to achieve that goal to worship Him. I am totally His and I want to glorify the Lord in everything that I think, say, write and do.

Thank you Lord for granting me today this wonderful opportunity to praise You and glorify Your holy name.

Thank you Father for giving me a glimpse and a preview on earth of what I will do in eternity where I will continuously exalt and glorify You from the depths of my heart and soul. Amen.

AM I PRAYING WITH DISCERNMENT?

George Mueller’s friends said he would not voice a petition without a “word from God” to support that request. In fact, Mueller never started praying until after he had spent time in God’s Word. He then prayed with an open Bible and filled his petitions with God’s promises. In George Mueller’s lifetime God gave him not only over a million sterling pounds, but also, Mueller believed, more than thirty thousand souls in answer to prayer.

In 1 Chronicles 5:22, God’s people won the war because the battle “was of God”. Whenever the Israelites sought the Lord regarding which battles to fight and then went at His command they always had victory. On the other hand, if they went without His leading they lost the battle.

Prayer is our battleground, and we, too, must expect God to help us know which battles are “of God.”

Sometimes the Holy Spirit lets us know our request would not fulfill His desire.  As we continue to pray, exact words may form in our minds, words that we recognize the Spirit is pleased for us to pray. It may simply be a heartfelt, “My deepest desire is for You Lord to be glorified in this situation.”

If that is our desire in prayer, we do not choose how God answers our request. George Mueller stated that we can know what to ask when the way God chooses to answer is so unimportant to us that we would not turn over our hand to change the outcome. Our concern is that the answer be His choice.

Our goal in prayer is to discover what God wants us to ask Him to do so He will be glorified. We have not come to tell God what to do, but to hear Him tell us what He wants to do.

Dear Lord, help me be aware when my prayer is not expressing a desire for You to receive glory.

“We do not know what we ought to pray…the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will” (Romans 8:26, 27).

This is the famous letter Gerhard Tersteegen wrote to the Lord Jesus that should be the desire of all our hearts:

“From this day to all eternity, Your will, not mine be done. Command and rule and reign in me. I yield up myself without reserve, and I promise, with Your help and power, rather to give up the last drop of my blood than knowingly or willingly be untrue or disobedient to Your.”

THE BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE

Excerpts from “The Blessings of Obedience” by Andrew Murray

The New Law of Love

To be merciful as the Father in heaven, to forgive just as He does, to love enemies, to do good to them that hate us, and to live lives of self-sacrifice and beneficence – this was what Jesus taught.

Let us look on an unforgiving spirit when we are provoked or ill-used, unloving thoughts and sharp or unkind words, the neglect of the call to show mercy, do good, and bless, as sheer disobedience. It must be felt, mourned over, and plucked out like a right eye before the power of full obedience can be ours.

Self is the root of all lack of love and disobedience. Our Lord called His disciple to deny himself, take up his cross, forsake everything, lose his own life, humble himself and become the servant of all. He asked this because self, self-will, self-pleasing, self-seeking – is simply the source of all sin.

When we give in to the flesh by overindulgence in eating and drinking; when we gratify self by seeking, accepting, or rejoicing in that which indulges our pride; when self-will is allowed to assert itself and we make provision for the fulfillment of its desire; we are guilty of disobedience to His command. This gradually clouds the soul and makes the full enjoyment of His light and peace impossible.

The Love Of The Whole Heart

The Christian who has not definitely aimed to sacrifice everything, who has not determined to seek grace in order to live, is guilty of disobedience. There may be much in his religion that appears good and earnest, but he cannot possibly have the joyful consciousness of knowing he is doing the will of his Lord and keeping His commandments.

When the call is heard to come and begin a true life of obedience again, many try to slip quietly into it. They think that by more prayer and Bible study they will grow into obedience and that it will come gradually. They are greatly mistaken. The word God uses in Jeremiah might teach them their mistake. “Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 3:13).

A soul that is in full earnest and has taken the vow of full obedience may grow out of a feeble obedience into a fuller one. But there is no growing out of disobedience into obedience. A turning back, a turning away, a decision, a crisis is needed. That only comes by very definite insight into what has been wrong and confession of the sin with shame and penitence.

Only in penance will the soul seek divine and mighty cleansing from its filthiness. Repentance prepares the consciousness for the gift of a new heart. God’s Spirit will cause us to walk in His statues.

If you would hope to lead a different life, to become a man or a woman of a Christ like obedience, begin by asking God for the Holy Spirit of conviction to show you all your disobedience. He will lead you, in humble confession, to the cleansing God has provided. Rest not until you have received it.

I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

God wants to do great things through us if we would just step out in faith when He asks us to. That is why He lets us go through some difficult times. Times when we feel weak and vulnerable He allows certain things to happen so that we will turn to Him. It is in those times, when we are forced to pray in greater faith, that our faith and our lives are transformed.

Only God can open our eyes to see these things. That is why we have to pray “Change me Lord”. For most of us it is one of the most difficult prayers to pray. We would rather pray, “Change him or her Lord.” If we give God charge of our lives some wonderful things will begin to happen.

True Christians want to be more like Christ and therefore a simple prayer would be “Make me more like Christ”. Who does not want to exhibit the character of Jesus? Who does not want to be more like Him in every way?

When we take the promises and truths in God’s Word and declare them out loud, we will sense our faith increasing. Every time we reach out and touch Him in prayer, our lives are healed, changed and transformed in some way.

Lord, soften my heart where it has become hard. Make me fresh where I have become stale. Lead me and instruct me where I have become un-teachable, and make me to be faithful and obedient like Jesus was. Where I am resistant to change, help me to trust your work in my life. Transform me by the power of Your Holy Spirit.

Lord, I want to be changed, and I pray those changes will begin today. I know that I cannot change myself in any way that is significant or lasting, but by the transforming power of Your Holy Spirit all things are possible. Grant me, according to the riches of Your glory, to be strengthened with might through Your Spirit in my inner being.

Transform me into Your likeness. I know that You will supply all that I need according to Your riches in Christ.

I AM THE VINE YOU ARE THE BRANCHES

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” John 15:1-4

Jesus said that He is the vine and we are the branches. If we abide in him we will bear fruit. Abide means to remain, to stay and to dwell. In other words, if we dwell with Him and He dwells with us, we will bear the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Galatians 5:22). And that is the greatest harvest we could hope for.

All of us are planting something in our lives every single day, whether we realize it or not. And we are also reaping whatever we have planted in the past. The quality of our lives right now is the result of what we planted and harvested some time before. We reap the good and the bad for years after we have sown. That is why it is so important to plant and nurture the right seeds now.

If we want to bear good fruit, we need to ask God to help us plant good seeds and pull up any weeds that may have grown up around our soul. We need to feed the soil of our hearts with the food of God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to water it afresh every day.

As long as we abide faithfully in the true Vine, He will empower us to bear good fruit.

Lord, where I need to be pruned in order to bear more fruit, I submit myself to You. I know that without You I can do nothing. You are the Vine and I am the branch. I must abide in You in order to bear fruit. Help me to do that. Thank You for Your promise that if I abide in You and Your Word abides in me I can ask what I desire and it will be done for me (John 15:7)

God’s Promises – Joshua 1:7-8

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

God gave Moses a clear command and what promise could be better than the promise He attached to it? “Meditate on [the book of the Law]…day and night… then you will be prosperous and successful”.

There is a key phrase in this passage. “Meditate …so that you may be careful to do everything written in it then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua. 1:7-8).

It is not the simple process of meditation that God affixes His promise to, but to the process of considering it so we can continually live by its words.

Meditation in Biblical terms comes from a Greek word meaning to revolve in the mind. In meditation we go over the Word in our minds questioning “What does this mean?” We ask the leading of the Holy Spirit and as a result, we gain a fresh understanding. In times past the early saints made much time for solitude accompanied by godly meditation. What were the results? “They were deep thinkers; we are imitators.” Even our Bible study may have us merely thinking thoughts from others rather than hearing from God.

Our meditation should involve taking in the bread of God’s Word, “focusing” on it by reading and thinking about it. As the day goes on, we reflect on it some more. As we meditate, the Word becomes so pleasant that we fully agree with the psalmist, “The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold” (Psalm 119:72). “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.” (Psalm 119:97)

Dear Lord, I want to meditate on Your Word until it becomes a part of who I am.

“Oh the joys of those who…delight in doing everything the Lord wants. Day and night they think about his law” (Psalm 1:1-2).

Why Read the Bible Daily?

Here are God’s instructions for our daily living: “Less of your words; more of Mine.”  We need to take this message to heart. It is important to arise early each morning to meet with the Lord through His Word. We must keep our focus by remembering that the Lord is in control.

‘You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength’ (Isa. 26:3-4). Isaiah…sang a song urging the Israelites…to keep their minds steady on God who never loses control over events.”

This gives us peace despite the circumstances and can be explained by the daily time of listening to the Word.

Once we begin to allow our daily time with God to slip away, we begin to miss it less and less. Our desire for the Word diminishes with neglect.

The result is that when a crisis comes we discover we have little strength. We lack a vision of a God who is in control and “sits enthroned over the flood” (Psalm 29:10). Rather than seeing the Lord ruling the uncontrollable flood of problems in our lives, we simply see the flood and are overwhelmed. It is those who hold tightly to their time with God who can confidently and calmly say “all things serve you” (Ps. 119:91).

Thank You, Jesus, for Your promise to meet us when we turn our attention to You.

“Happy are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates” (Proverbs 8:34).

WE FIND FREEDOM WHEN WE PRAY FOR DELIVERANCE.

We all need deliverance at one time or another. That is because no matter how spiritual we are, we are still made of flesh. And no matter how perfectly we live, we still have an enemy who is trying to raise strongholds of evil in our lives. God wants us to be free from everything that binds, holds, or separates us from Him.

God wants us to be free not only because He loves us and has compassion on us, but because He wants us to be able to “serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him,” all the days of your life (Luke 1:74-75).

So often we live our lives as if we do not realize the enormous price Jesus paid so we could be free. Jesus “gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father” (Galatians 1:4). He wants to continue to set us free in the future.

Freedom will not change you into someone else. It will free you to be who you really are, an intelligent, secure, loving, talented, kindhearted, witty, attractive child of God.

If you need help, have someone else who is a strong believer pray with you for your needs. It is extremely important to read God’s Word and understand it with clarity as you spend time in the Lord’s presence. The most effective and powerful way to spend time in the Lord’s presence is in praise and worship.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Lord, I call upon You and ask that You would deliver me from anything that binds me or separates me from You. Give me wisdom to walk in the right way and strength to rise above the things that would pull me down.

I know that You who have begun a good work in me will complete it. Give me patience to not give up and the strength to stand strong in Your Word. Thank you for promising to “deliver me from every evil work and preserve me” for your kingdom (2 Timothy 4:18). Without You I am held captive by my desires, I am blind to the truth, and I am oppressed. But with You comes freedom from all that. “My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, and from those who persecute me” (Psalm 31:15).

Help me to stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made me free.

WHETHER YOU TURN TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT – Isaiah 30:21

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”   Isaiah 30:21

I trust you Lord for each day of life, grateful for every breath, determined to look for Your blessing in the moment, no matter what the circumstances. I follow Your lead Lord, even when I cannot see where I am going, because deep within my spirit I know that these simple steps of faith are preparing me for the calling you have for my life and for eternity.

As Christians we want to be in the center of God’s will. That is why we should not pursue a move without the knowledge that it is the will of God. We must regularly ask God to show us what His will is and to lead us in it. We must ask the Lord to speak to our heart so He can tell us where He wants to guide us.

The best way to start seeking the Will of God for our lives is “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”  (1 Thess. 5:18). Thank the Lord for keeping us in the center of His will. Then we should ask Him to guide our every step. This will give us the peace of mind and the confidence to know that we are on the right path and under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

We all have a call from Abba Father on our life. Are we going to listen to find out what it is? If we have never sought our heavenly Father about His plans and purposes for our life, we need to do that. We need to know that He will not leave us where we are forever. We need to seek His direction for our life and listen for the call.

Lord, I know You have great purpose for me and a plan for my life. Open my ears to hear Your voice leading me into all You have for my life. Align my heart with Yours and prepare me to understand where You would have me to go and what You would have me to do.

Help me to hear Your call. I will eagerly listen for Your voice. I want You to fill me with your greatness so that I may do great things for others as You have called me to do. I commit to walking step by step with You so that I may fully become all that You have made me to be.

Speak to me from Your Word so that I will have understanding. If there is something I should be doing, reveal it to me. I want to move into all You have for me and become all You made me to be by walking in Your perfect will for my life.

Lord, I depend on You for everything, I give up my independence. Help me to get beyond myself and become an open vessel through which Your light can shine. Give me Your wisdom and revelation and show me all I need to learn to keep me on the road You have for me. Enable me to step out of my past and keep an eye on my eternal future with You. Help me to follow You as You light my path each day.

I YIELD UP MY BODY INTO THE HANDS OF GOD

19I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. 20When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! (Romans 6:19-21)

Abraham saw nothing but God and His promise, the power and faithfulness of God who guaranteed him the fulfillment of His promise.

There are differences between healing which is expected from earthly remedies and the healing which comes from God.

It is interesting that when we have a choice of remedies for healing; all the attention of the sick person is upon the body. However, divine healing calls us to turn our attention away from the body, and to abandon ourselves, soul and body to the Lord’s care, focusing on Him alone.

Sin is not the only sign of why we are sick, but if it is, in order to receive divine healing, sin must be so truly confessed and renounced, and we must be so completely surrendered to the Lord. Self (pride) must be yielded up and we must so focus on Jesus, that healing becomes the commencement of a new life of intimate communion with the Lord.

When we learn to give up to Him entirely the care of the health, and the smallest indications of the return of the evil is guarded as a warning not to consider your body, but to be occupied with the Lord only.

What a contrast this is from the larger number of sick people who look for healing from remedies. They are focused on themselves. What a constant preoccupation to them is their eating and drinking, the anxiety to avoid this or that! How much are their lives taken up with what they consider due to them from others, whether they are sufficiently thought of, whether well enough taken care of, whether visited often enough! How much time is thus devoted to considering the body and what it requires, rather than the Lord and the relations which He seeks to establish with our souls! Oh, how many of us who, through sickness, are occupied almost exclusively with ourselves!

All this is totally different when healing is looked for in faith from the loving God. Then the first thing to learn is to cease to be anxious about the state of our body; we have trusted it to the Lord, and He has taken the responsibility. If we do not see a rapid improvement immediately, but on the contrary the symptoms appear to be more serious, remember that you have entered on a path of faith, and therefore you ought not to consider the body, but cling only to the living God.

The commandment of Christ, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body . . .” (Matthew 6:25), appears here in a new light. When God called Abraham not to consider his own body, it was that He might call him to the greatest exercise of faith which could be, that he might learn to see only God and His promise. Sustained by his faith, he gave glory to God, convinced that God would do what He had promised. Divine healing is a marvelous tie to bind us to the Lord. At first, one may fear to believe that the Lord will stretch forth His mighty hand and touch the body; but in studying the Word of God, the soul takes courage and confidence.

At last one decides saying, “I YIELD UP MY BODY INTO THE HANDS OF GOD; AND I LEAVE THE CARE OF IT TO HIM.”  Only then do we loose sight of self, and only the Lord and His promise are in view.

Will you also enter upon this way of faith, very superior to that which we call natural? Walk in the steps of Abraham. Learn from him not to consider your own body, and not to doubt through unbelief. To consider the body gives birth to doubts, while clinging to the promise of God and being occupied with Him alone gives entrance into the way of faith, the way of divine healing, which glorifies God.
